SOCSO has raised the salary ceiling for contributors from RM5,000 to RM6,000, effective from 1 October 2024. This change will benefit employees earning above RM5,000, with a 20.2% increase in benefit payments.
Amendments to the Employees’ Social Security Act 1969 and the Employment Insurance System Act 2017 have led to increased cash benefits for various categories, including temporary and permanent disablement, invalidity, and survivors’ pensions.
Employment Insurance System benefits such as job search and early re-employment allowances will also see improvements. Human Resources Minister Steven Sim highlighted that this will extend SOCSO coverage to 1.45 million more workers.
